Guardamar de la Safor<\/strong> has a municipal term of1.10 km\u00b2<\/strong> extension (1,324 fanecadas<\/strong>) i 481 m<\/strong> of the Mediterranean coast. The municipality confronts to the north with Gandia<\/strong> i daim\u00fas<\/strong>; by the west, with Gandia<\/strong> i bellreguard<\/strong>; by the south, with Miramar<\/strong>; and by the east, with the Mediterranean sea<\/strong>. The main means of communication it has are the road of Nazareth in Oliva<\/strong>, a beach road and a rural road<\/strong> which unites it with daim\u00fas<\/strong> i Miramar<\/strong> and that runs parallel to the coastal fault<\/strong>. This geographical accident divides the term into one part marshy<\/strong> and in another higher one, oftraditional irrigated agriculture<\/strong>, which uses water from the Common sewer of Gandia<\/strong>. The urban helmet<\/strong>, as in daim\u00fas<\/strong> i Miramar<\/strong>, is installed on the geological fault<\/strong> and is organized around the \u201cChurch street<\/strong>". As a whole, the town appears structured in four blocks of houses<\/strong> i three primitive streets<\/strong>, to which were added, subsequently, the "Calle del Moli<\/strong>\u201d and \u201cCalle Nou<\/strong>\u201c".<\/p>

surely theRahal-Soltan Hispanic-Muslim farmhouse<\/strong>, which appears in a document of the year 1240<\/strong>, would be located, approximately, in the current location of the town. At the end of fourteenth century<\/strong>, they only lived in Guardamar three Mudejar families<\/strong>. his feudal lord<\/strong>, the knight Bernat Verdeguer<\/strong>, served as justice and jury in the town of Gand\u00eda<\/strong> for a handful of years and, among other activities, was engaged in lending money in the form of censuses<\/strong>. During the second half of the XV<\/strong>, the Verdeguer<\/strong> related to the Tamarit<\/strong>, family with which they shared business and interests. At the end of five hundred<\/strong>, the family Tamarit<\/strong> decides to build one attached mill<\/strong> in the lord's house, for which he must ask borrowed money<\/strong>. with theexpulsion of the Moors<\/strong> in the year 1609<\/strong>, the town remained uninhabited<\/strong> until the year 1612<\/strong>, when Mrs. Guardamar, Rafaela Tamarit<\/strong>, signed the village letter<\/strong> with 15 repopulator<\/strong>, some of which were of origin Majorcan<\/strong>. The biggest owner of the town until the year 1850<\/strong> was the widow of Josep Rausell de Gandia<\/strong>. The attorneys<\/strong> of these landowners had a prominent presence in the political and social life<\/strong> of Guardamar between the nineteenth century<\/strong> and the 20th<\/strong>, like family Saint Matthew<\/strong> or little bit<\/strong>. A daughter of marquis<\/strong> married to Frederic Trenor<\/strong>, the lord of the convent of Saint Jerome<\/strong>, inherited all his father's property in Guardamar de la Safor. Guardamar de la Safor<\/strong> posseeix un terme municipal d'1,10 km\u00b2<\/strong> d'extensi\u00f3 (1.324 fanecades<\/strong>) i 481 m<\/strong> de litoral mediterrani. El municipi confronta al nord amb Gandia<\/strong> i Daim\u00fas<\/strong>; per l'oest, amb Gandia<\/strong> i Bellreguard<\/strong>; pel sud, amb Miramar<\/strong>; i per l'est, amb la mar Mediterr\u00e0nia<\/strong>. Les principals vies de comunicaci\u00f3 amb qu\u00e8 compta s\u00f3n la carretera de Natzaret a Oliva<\/strong>, una carretera a la platja i un cam\u00ed rural<\/strong> que l'uneix amb Daim\u00fas<\/strong> i Miramar<\/strong> i que va paral\u00b7lel a la falla costera<\/strong>. Este accident geogr\u00e0fic divideix el terme en una part pantanosa<\/strong> i en una altra m\u00e9s elevada, d'agricultura tradicional de regadiu<\/strong>, que utilitza l'aigua de la s\u00e9quia Com\u00fa de Gandia<\/strong>. El casc urb\u00e0<\/strong>, igual que en Daim\u00fas<\/strong> i Miramar<\/strong>, es troba instal\u00b7lat sobre la falla geol\u00f2gica<\/strong> i s'organitza en torn al \"carrer de l'Esgl\u00e9sia<\/strong>\". En conjunt, el poble apareix estructurat en quatre illes de cases<\/strong> i tres carrers primitius<\/strong>, als que s'afegiren, posteriorment, el \"carrer del Moli<\/strong>\" i \"el carrer Nou<\/strong>\".<\/p>

Segurament, l'alqueria hispanomusulmana Rahal-Soltan<\/strong>, qu\u00e8 apareix en un document de l'any 1240<\/strong>, s'ubicaria, aproximadament, en l'actual emplazament del poble. A finals del segle XIV<\/strong>, a Guardamar tan sols vivien tres fam\u00edlies de mud\u00e8jars<\/strong>. El seu senyor feudal<\/strong>, el cavaller Bernat Verdeguer<\/strong>, exercia de just\u00edcia i jurat en la vila de Gand\u00eda<\/strong> durant un bon grapat d'anys i, entre altres activitats, es dedicava a prestar diners en forma de censals<\/strong>. Durant la segona meitat del XV<\/strong>, els Verdeguer<\/strong> emparentaren amb els Tamarit<\/strong>, fam\u00edlia amb la que compartien negocis e interessos. A finals del cinc-cents<\/strong>, la fam\u00edlia Tamarit<\/strong> decideix construir un mol\u00ed annexe<\/strong> a la casa de la senyoria, per la qual cosa va d'haver de demanar diners prestat<\/strong>. Amb l'expulsi\u00f3 dels moriscos<\/strong> en l'any 1609<\/strong>, el poble va quedar deshabitat<\/strong> fins l'any 1612<\/strong>, quan la senyora de Guardamar, Rafaela Tamarit<\/strong>, firmava la carta pobla<\/strong> amb 15 repoblador<\/strong>, alguns dels quals eren d'origen mallorqu\u00ed<\/strong>. Foren uns anys molt dif\u00edcils<\/strong> i els nouvinguts no arrelaven i acabaren marxant. A l'any 1635<\/strong>, els Tamarit<\/strong> es veuen obligats a vendre el senyoriu<\/strong> perqu\u00e8 arrastraven un deute de quasi 3000 lliures<\/strong> i els seus creditor<\/strong> havien acudit als tribunals. Enric de Miranda<\/strong>, un gener\u00f3s d'Oliva<\/strong> que havia rebut una her\u00e8ncia de m\u00e9s de 50.000 ducats<\/strong> del seu pare, comprava el senyoriu<\/strong> per 8.300 lliures<\/strong>. Despr\u00e9s de l'expulsi\u00f3 dels moriscos, la canyamel<\/strong> fou substitu\u00efda progressivament per la olivera<\/strong>, la morera<\/strong> i el ra\u00efm<\/strong>. A finals de esta centuria, es clausurava el mol\u00ed<\/strong> per la poca viabilitat<\/strong> del negoci del sucre<\/strong>.<\/p>

Durant la Guerra de Successi\u00f3<\/strong> (1705-1707<\/strong>), a l'igual que en altres municipis, alguns ve\u00efns van deixar de pagar els impostos senyorials<\/strong>, per la qual cosa eren denunciats a l'Audi\u00e8ncia<\/strong>. Este segle ve marcat per la prosperitat<\/strong>, la poblaci\u00f3 augmentava i alguns llauradors propietaris<\/strong> tenien suficient capacitat econ\u00f2mica<\/strong> per arrendar els drets dominicals<\/strong> dels pobles i d'algunes institucions religioses<\/strong>. En l'any 1760<\/strong>, la senyora de Guardamar, Francesca Ant\u00f2nia Pallar\u00e9s<\/strong>, descendent d'Enric de Miranda<\/strong>, es casava amb el marqu\u00e9s de Mira-sol<\/strong>, un noble de Val\u00e8ncia<\/strong> dedicat a comandar els efectius militars de salvaguarda<\/strong> de la costa del Regne<\/strong> i que edificava un mol\u00ed fariner<\/strong> al poble per augmentar les seues rendes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Ja en el vuit-cents<\/strong>, molts llauradors endeutats<\/strong> es veien obligats a vendre les seues terres als burgesos terratinents<\/strong> que estaven interessats a plantar ra\u00efm moscatell<\/strong> i arr\u00f2s<\/strong> davant les expectatives de negoci d'estos cultius. La major propiet\u00e0ria del poble fins a l'any 1850<\/strong> era la v\u00eddua de Josep Rausell de Gandia<\/strong>. Els procuradors<\/strong> d'estos terratinents tenien una pres\u00e8ncia destacada en la vida pol\u00edtica i social<\/strong> de Guardamar entre el segle XIX<\/strong> i el XX<\/strong>, com la fam\u00edlia Santmateu<\/strong> o Poquet<\/strong>. Una filla del marqu\u00e8s<\/strong> casada amb Frederic Tr\u00e8nor<\/strong>, el senyor del convent de Sant Jer\u00f2nim<\/strong>, heretava tots els b\u00e9ns del seu pare a Guardamar de la Safor. Durant el per\u00edode de II Rep\u00fablica<\/strong>, al poble funcionaren fins a tres tavernes<\/strong> i van haver diferents projectes per edificar una nova escola<\/strong> aix\u00ed com per a millorar l'assist\u00e8ncia sanit\u00e0ria<\/strong> i la salubritat urbana<\/strong>. Fins al final de la d\u00e8cada dels 60<\/strong> va funcionar l'escola de prim\u00e0ria<\/strong> i els estudiants van haver de ser escolaritzats a Daim\u00fas<\/strong>. Guardamar ha comen\u00e7at l'explotaci\u00f3 tur\u00edstica<\/strong> de la seua platja<\/strong> molt tard, a partir de la d\u00e8cada dels anys 90<\/strong> del segle XX<\/strong>.<\/p>

Algun dels edificis singulars<\/strong> del poble s\u00f3n la casa senyorial dels Tamarits<\/strong>, algunes antigues alqueries rurals<\/strong> i l'esgl\u00e9sia de Sant Joan Baptista<\/strong> que comparteix el patronatge de la poblaci\u00f3 amb la Nostra Senyora de la Llet<\/strong>. L'esgl\u00e9sia es troba annexa a la parr\u00f2quia de Miramar<\/strong> des de 1535<\/strong>. L'arxiu municipal<\/strong> conserva les actes<\/strong> des de 1828<\/strong> i la comptabilitat<\/strong> des de l'any 1880<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
